Older, wiser and even more Bourbon Soaked!

Hey brothers and sisters,

When can you wear a fancy hat whilst playing a small guitar ...if not your birthday?

It’s the 11/11 which means it’s my birthday…how old? 11+11=22!! OK!?

So today I did what every 22 year old does on his birthday: woke up at 1pm to the smell of Lady Ane’s home made chocolate cake, had some of that and more, then got on the phone to my left hand man GC and his son Hamish, to sort the final details about the artwork of our very fucking long awaited debut album Bourbon Soaked Gypsy Blues Bop’n'Stroll, which I promise you sounds like satan making love to you in positions you didn’t know existed!

And that was all followed by a smoked salmon snack, with scrambled eggs of course - this is one Norwegian tradition I follow!

Having had a drink++ with my old pal Dave the night before and feeling shit, it wasnt before the Rabbitt and the Bibi turned up that I realized I had to make myself presentable for my harim!

Bring out the Champagne Rabster Wifey - I’m wearing a suit now!

(AND LEAVE SOME jd FOR ME!)…capslock, caps- smuck!

Sam’s Cars?

* Hello, bring me to J’s Studio and let me rock out with some of the coolest motherfuckers alive!

..AND THEN IT WAS UVM REHEARSAL TIME!

….Some of my friends/band comrades were there, and had this to say about me!

J-Roni-Moe - he’s a loudmoth, but if he is our loudmouth lets get him a megaphone!

Jary - agree brother, he is the Geldof of closing toilet doors at Glasto!

The Reverend - Of course he is, but don’t tell him that, tell him he is the Rockabilly Don of the megaphone, we might get a new song out of that - I REFUSE TO PLAY ALONG TO SLAMMING TOILET DOORS!

Luci - Basically I Rock, he Rocks and they Rock….Where’s the Tusk?

Gomez - I know what you want, - crime jazz! In G right? WILD!

Barney - Didnt know I could fiddle so much in the 3rd verse, howdy!

(and I would like to add, they all wished me a happy birthday!)

The pilot tries in vain to help P-R board the flight to Dublin!

Don’t think anyone else made the jam tonite, exept for Birgitte and Claire of course - they made the other bits! (I hope Jay’s neigbour with the noise complaint would like to meet us at some point, anonymous note ain’t brave is it? ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE UVM?)

We then moved onto the Heartbrak Hotel, Dalston - not a speed dialed drug dealer in sight! Good!

Playing some more tunes with Duncan Woodsmen was just the ticket, we managed to ruin tunes by Elvis, Pogues, Stones and others with the singing and/or blabbering mouths of Mrs Angel, Fire-Tusk and Rabbitt!

And now I have a few hours to sleep before I go to Dublin to jam with the Mighty Stef - my new favourite singer! Better finish this bottle of red then!

If you made it this far, I got to level with ya….I’m 36 today!

Thanx for listening,

P-R

ps. I think THE POGUES have got it: songs, fuck off attitude, and good trousers!

…and..

I am very proud to say that my group will be supporting them on their UK/Ireland tour in December - THANX AGAIN SPIDER!

Irish tour

Hello People,
So we just did a 4 day stint of Ireland, here’s a brief report before my brain gets washed away in Portugese wine!

CORK: It was good to be back at the Crane Lane Theatre, like the place a lot - good sound/stage/crew and great to be finally sharing a bill with The Mighty Stef. A big thanx to Nikki and her 100 sisters for making the evening special!

DUBLIN: We rolled up to some bar to be told “you didnt bring your own microphones?” Did we fuck! Anyway, we have new friends in dirty old Dublin town and The Mighty Stef were not gonna let this show not happen so mikes were sorted and we played (not our best show to date I must admit!) That aside, we did manage to visit Mr Phil Lynnot’s statue with none other than Thin Lizzy’s tourmanager, Mr Frank Murray. Did we give Philo a red shirt? Does the pope shit in the woods??

DERRY: We love you Derry!!! Red and Black all the way! Buckfast!! Thanx again Beatnick Soul!! Derry we love you! No really!!

Open House Festival, BELFAST - Photo by Graham Curry

BELFAST: Our first time! And what a first time!! OPEN HOUSE FESTIVAL! Kieran Gilmore is a man of taste and understanding of good shit! This show was a proper GYPSY HOTEL with performers from all over joining us - NICE!

You wanna hear more?? Buy me a drink, I’m at the bar!

Not a bad life,

Gypsy Hotel is 2 years old???

Fuck me!! They say time flies when you’re having fun, and indeed I am!

What was originally meant to be a one-off party for Lady Ane Angel’s birthday, has turned out to be the most original nite London’s underground has seen for years, attracting an audience of all ages, walks of life, races, shapes, sizes and mental issues!

Maybe this has something to do with our eclectic programming. We’ve been lucky to have some of the worlds best performers grace the stage of our Bourbon Soaked Snake Charmin’ Rock’n'Roll Cabaret. The Fire Tusk Pain Proof Circus, Gawkagogo, Son Of Dave, Paloma Faith, Empress Stah, Puppini Sisters, Nigel Burch and the Flea-Pit Orchesta, Ruby Blues, Jim Jones Revue, Roxy Velvet, Los Plantronics, Frank Sanazi, Devil Doll, Texas Chainsaw Orchestra, Bikini Beach Band to name but a few, but not forgetting the man who keeps the party rocking till the end, former Clash tour DJ and now our resident wax-spinner, Scratchy. And I should probably mention my own outfit, The Urban Voodoo Machine, for without us there would be no Gypsy Hotel!

So for 2 years now we’ve been holding monthly club nights at our home in Dalston, Bardens Boudoir - but that’s not all we’ve been up to; we’ve done joint parties with Stranger Than Paradise, Not The Same Old Blues Crap, Dirty Water Club, Vince Ray & Chaz Royal, done shows in Paris, Oslo, Dublin and Belfast and since 2007 have a monthly event in Cork, Ireland.

So that just about sums up the last couple of years, it’s been a fuckin’ blast and I’m sure there’s plenty more to come - just wanna say a big thank you to everyone who has performed and everyone who paid their £6.66!

See ya at the bar brothers and sisters,
Paul-Ronney Angel
